What is Green Collab about?
Green Collab is a social enterprise dedicated to helping communities build a sustainable future through education and donations to local environmental projects. But what exactly does this mean for you?
In essence, we are about creating opportunities to fund green enterprises and local community projects. So, how do we do this?
Our thinking behind Green Collab was about how we can making it easier to get eco-projects off the ground. While there are many grassroots organisations who do great work our local communities here in the UK, it can be difficult to find out how you can join in the effort and support them. Our first step to answer this problem was to create a platform where people can share what they are doing in an open forum, not unlike a local neighbood app.
The second issue we wanted to address was how local people can support these projects. On one hand, you might a hands-on person who likes to join in activities, such as picking up rubbish and planting trees. However, not everyone has the time to do this, even if they do want to help out in some way. For this reason, we made it possible to donate to causes and projects of your choice.
You can also create your own project if you have an idea that you want to get help with – perhaps you want to teach children about nature or start a nature group. Donations can help you to buy supplies and spread the word about your project.
The next issue Green Collab helps with is supporting green jobs and businesses. When a user posts a project on Green Collab, they can offer paid and voluntary roles to member of the local community. This is brilliant option for those looking to start a career in the sustainable sector or learn more about different kinds jobs. We hope that business will also use the platform to find collaborators and make connections that support the community in this way.

Where does Green Collab come from?
The idea started in 2022. It’s a baby! As a writer, Aisha (one of founders) was working on article about how the economy and nature. She was interested in finding out how people thought the market might shed light on the relationship humans have natural resources (like the sun, air, and soil). She began a conversation with Avis, a local business owner and coincidently our other founder.
The conversation took an interesting turn when Avis was asked what she thought we could do to bring environmental policy to a local level. This began an engaging and ultimately fruitful discussion about how a community app might be useful to help local people learn and advocate for change. Roughly 3-4 months later, the idea was fleshed out into what we now call GreenCollab – that is green collaboration.
